VOLUNTEER CAR SERVICE
VCA Stroud operates the Volunteer Car Service for people living in the Stroud District Council area.
This is a service using volunteers, driving their own cars to help others.
The Volunteer Car Service is for the elderly and frail, or people with a disability which makes travel by public transport difficult or impossible.
Both Ring & Ride minibuses and the Volunteer Car Service can be used by people who do not have access to any other means of transport and need to make an ESSENTIAL journey.
Our volunteer car service can, for example, be used for shopping, to go to the local post office or hairdressers, visiting friends, the library, doctor, or dentist also hospital appointments and outpatients clinics (excluding Cheltenham and Gloucester hospitals.
Using the Volunteer Car Service If you need to go to a hospital for either an operation or an appointment you MUST first ask your GP or the clinic if you can use the Hospital Car Service or seated ambulance vehicles. You may be eligible for the hospital transport service and if you are, IT IS FREE and you should use it.
If you are NOT able to get the hospital transport service please contact us and we will try to provide transport for you. We can only help you within the Stroud district - for example if you are travelling to Standish, Stroud or Berkeley Hospitals, visiting close friends or relatives who are in their own home, in hospital or perhaps a residential or nursing home.
Fares You may pay for your fares with cash or tokens. These fares are subsidised by funding from Gloucestershire County Council Environment Department and from donations. Fares help to cover our running costs and are reviewed periodically. We do not make a profit.
